How to use the passport photo editor
- Choose your country. The pixel size shown under the list is the size of the finished photo.
- Upload a photo. Use a recent, front-facing photo taken in even light, ideally against a plain white or light wall. Your browser re-saves it before uploading, which also removes hidden metadata such as GPS location.
- Wait a moment. Processing can take up to a minute. Keep the page open until your result appears.
- Check and download. Your result opens on its own page, where you can download the photo or email yourself the links.
What the editor does
- Finds your face and the top of your head, then crops the photo so your head is positioned for the country you chose.
- Checks the background. If it doesn't pass, the editor may replace it, and the result page says so clearly.
- Resizes and saves the photo as a JPEG at the selected country's pixel dimensions.
- Reports measurements: head height, eye line, and space above the head, as percentages of the photo. Use them to spot a bad crop at a glance.
What it doesn't do
The editor can't turn an unsuitable photo into an acceptable one. Retake the photo if it's blurry, your face is unevenly lit or shadowed, your head is tilted, or glasses, hair, or a hat cover part of your face.
It also doesn't check every rule. Requirements such as how recent the photo must be, whether you may smile, and what you may wear vary by country, and they change. Privacy
This tool uploads your photo, because face detection and background checks run on a server. The photo travels over an encrypted connection and is handled by our photo processing provider. We keep a record of your result so its page works, and that record is deleted automatically after 7 days. See the privacy policy for details.

Frequently asked questions
Is my photo uploaded?
Yes. The editor sends your photo over an encrypted connection to a processing server. Your result page expires after 7 days. The privacy policy explains exactly what is stored.
Will my photo be accepted?
No tool can promise that. The editor crops and sizes the photo and checks the background, but acceptance also depends on lighting, expression, focus, and the other requirements, and the agency that receives your application makes the final decision.
What happens if my background doesn't pass?
The editor may replace it automatically, and the result page tells you when it has. Some agencies don't accept photos changed by software, so check your country's rules. If you're unsure, retake the photo against a plain, light wall instead.
How long can I download my photo?
Your result page and its download link work for 7 days. Download the photo, or use the "Email me this photo" option to send the links to yourself.
What pixel size is the download?
The download is a digital file at your country's pixel size. A U.S. photo is 600 × 600 pixels, which prints at exactly 2 × 2 inches at 300 DPI; choose actual size with no scaling.
